I did about 30-45 minutes of work on it this evening.
I started with loading the pictue I drew yesterday into maya so i could use it as a rough template.
Then I made a cube and divided into section. I pulled and extruded those sections until it had a similar shape as my picture.
Then i played around with the curves and smooth the edges out a little.
I also split the edges along where i want the mouth to be then extruded edges inside to create what will be the inside of his mouth.
Oh! plus I cut him in half and deleted one side. SO now i dont have to do everything twice and try to make it symmetrical. I can just make a side then mirror it over when the time comes.
